Classroom in the Mall is designed to help high school students interested in pursuing a career in retail, merchandising, managing, advertising, and other careers a mall setting has to offer. It is composed of three sessions held a month a part, and includes presentations by store managers on topics such as merchandising, purchasing, budgeting, displays, advertising, and promotions. In addition to the presentations, the students also take tours of several stores within the mall and work on team tasks designed to encourage them to work together on a project such as creating a successful mall promotion targeting a specific demographic group. Classroom in the Mall was piloted in 1998 and is held annually. To date, over 170 students have participated.
