Since 1996, the Partnership has organized 145 Educators in the
Workplace experiences for not only teachers, but also for school nurses, guidance
counselors, and other school personnel. Educators participating in EIW receive a $300 stipend.
Educators participating in EIW spend a week over the summer at a local business of special interest to their field of education. During that week, educators might be given a tour of the business, engage in job shadowing, or actually participate in one of the jobs at that business. During their visit, they keep a journal of the types of jobs at the company and what skills are most important. At the end of the experience, they take what they've learned back to their pupils in a lesson plan. |

Southern Columbia Area Middle School Principal Roger Nunkester and Town
of Bloomsburg Chief of Police Leo Sokoloski talked about their Educator
in the Workplace 2007 experience at the Foundation's annual meeting in
May 2008. Both Mr. Nunkester and Chief Sokoloski found the experience
to be very rewarding, informative, and enjoyable.
