The intent of the School Counts! program is to encourage students to understand the importance of such issues as attendance and exerting extra effort on schoolwork, and how these skills directly relate to post-high school careers.
Businesses need individuals who:
- Report to work on time.
- Invest a certain amount of quality and rigor in their work and can demonstrate evidence of achievement.
- Persist and finish what is started.
- Exert extra effort as appropriate.
Employer Commitment:
- Employers ask to see the School Counts! Certificate while interviewing candidates for a job.
- Give consideration to hiring a School Counts! student.
- Display their School Counts! window decal in a visible location.
- Recruit other employers to join the effort.
- Join a steering committee to advance the program.
- There is no cost for businesses to become a School Counts! employer.
Student Criteria:
- Make a grade of “C” or better in all academic courses.
- Achieve a 95% or better attendance and punctuality record.
- Not more than nine absences and five tardies per year
- Complete high school in eight consecutive semesters.
- Take more courses (credits) than the minimum graduation requirements.
- Students receive a credential for each of their high school years that they attain these criteria.
- Demonstrate positive behavior, including no suspensions.
