Student in the Workplace Week

This year, Student in the Workplace Week took place from November 5-9, 2007. Approximately 130 students from Benton Area Junior High School, Berwick Area Middle School, Bloomsburg Middle School, and Millville Area Junior High School were placed through the Tri-Chamber Foundation with a local business for the day. Student in the Workplace Week, which was first coordinated by the organization in 1997, is a program where eighth-grade students spend a day at a local business to learn about the different career choices available, and also to gain a better overall understanding of what the workplace is like and what will be expected of them upon entering the workforce.

Several local schools have established their own eighth-grade job shadowing/career exploration program, and most of the schools that participate in Student in the Workplace Week allow students not placed at a business through the Foundation to find a placement on their own. This year, the following businesses participated in Student in the Workplace Week through the Foundation: American Red Cross – Berwick Chapter, Benton Head Start, Berwick Head Start, Berwick Offray LLC, Bloomsburg Health Services, Bloomsburg Veterinary Hospital, Catawissa Chiropractic Center, Columbia County Farmers National Bank, Columbia-Sullivan Head Start, Columbia-Sullivan Head Start – Millville, David J. Thompson Mailing Corp., Decorator Industries, District Court 26-3-01 (in Millville), Dyco, Inc., Giant Food Stores (Berwick), Girton Manufacturing, JDK Management Co., Press Enterprise, Inc., Salvation Army (Berwick), and Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson.

The Foundation would like to extend a HUGE THANKS to all the businesses and school staff that helped our students become better prepared for the workforce by participating in Student in the Workplace Week 2007!
